In this procedure, a small stomach pouch or tube approx 50-80 cc is created to restrict food intake. Then a Y-shaped section of the small intestine is attached to the pouch to allow food to bypass the lower stomach and the part of intestine till common limb start. This reduces the amount of calories and nutrients the body absorbs.
In common language, Gastric Bypass is “rerouting”, it involve creating a small pouch of stomach so that one can eat less and connecting the intestine to new pouch in a manner where the food digestion & absorption get bypassed till the part of common limb of Y connection. So, it not only restrict the food intake but it also restrict the food digestion & absorption in bypassed segment which helps in weight loss.
